I have never heard it called "The Bus Test" but I have been asked many times in my career "What if you're hit by a bus?" Okay here's the thing: don't be an insensitive jerk when you're receiving a developer's contribution or idea. Asking someone "what if you die?" is really awful. Maybe you can say in response to the project manager/company owner: "What if YOU die? Who will fill out the spreadsheet?"

Jeez, just share the knowledge / skills etc within the team or organisation.
