For a moment this felt like an updated version of Sartre's "No Exit" ("Huis Clos"). In particular when it turned out that Jan's dad was fired by Stan's and temparature was rising (literally and figuratively). Corporate hell is other people. 😉

In the end, I kept thinking about how Jan was still bitter towards Stan, while Stan being welcoming to Jan. It's probably not good for a business to hold grudges.

For another perspective, maybe Stan needs a pet scientist ... hiring Jan (young, smart and female) makes a better publicity stunt than hiring a stale white male.

But for that he did not had to go through the trouble of finding her. He could have hired any young smart female. He particularly went back to her, probably because of something that he saw in her. Has to be more than just for the publicity.
